I want my students to do more than just remember and be able to identify facts and ideas; I want them to become invested in their learning. I encourage them to question things and ask why. Students also internalize what they are learning more readily when they are able to interact with the information, thus creating authentic experiences. Reflection is also an important component to help the students synthesize and analyze the information so they develop a genuine understanding of what they have learned.
